Review - E17! Miss! B22! Miss! F45! Hit! ("Battleship", etc.)

Hey! You sunk my battleship! Sound familiar? It should! Hasbro's "Battleship" has been a board game staple since 1967. Now director Peter Berg ("Hancock") and Universal Studios have brought it to the screen with massive CGI effects, a witty but plot-hole riddled script, and some impressive production values.

Review - "God Bless America" -- Another Perspective...

Following his 2009 film “World’s Greatest Dad,” writer/director Bobcat Goldthwait has given us his newest critique of our societal desensitization with “God Bless America.” Being a big fan of “World’s Greatest Dad,” I went into this really wanting to like it… and I am not sure that I don’t. It has some decent qualities, but also has a lot of other qualities too. (click article title for rest of review)

Review - A Blistering Indictment of What Passes for “Culture” Today – Edgy, In Your Face and Extreme ("God Bless America")

“Why do you gotta be so rude all the time?” “Why do you gotta be so mean all the time?” These two questions – and the lack of an answer – are the crux of the issue at the center of “God Bless America,” Bobcat Goldthwait’s latest film.

Review - Can This Possibly Live Up to Its Hype? ("The Avengers," "Battle Beyond the Stars")

To answer the burning question right up front: YES, the film lives up to all the hype...and then some! Being a Marvel fan and general fanboy and geek at heart, I loved this movie from start to finish, so forgive me while I blush as I write this.

05/07/12 - "The 80's Show Redux"

Since Jon is away, Kurtis is busy, and Harry is recovering from a bad case of 'filmfestivalitis," we will be broadcasting a rerun of our January 23, 2012 show featuring an interview with Ernest Cline of www.ernestcline.com, and 80's expert Lando from www.rockerrags.com. Mr. Cline is the author of "Ready Player One" a new novel (and soon-to-be film) chock full of 80's pop culture references. Lando just knows a ton of crap about the 80's. Bringing you the absolute worst in reruns of the absolute worst 80's referenced interviews and web talk radio... guaranteed!

Review - A Terrific Film with More Twists and Turns than a Fjord-side Road ("Headhunters")

Roger Brown has a pretty good life. By day, he’s a corporate recruiter (headhunter) who goes home at night to a magnificent house and stunning wife. Unfortunately, Roger’s insecurities (he’s only 5’6”) lead him to seek a lifestyle well beyond his means. How does he make up the difference between his income and expenses? High-priced art theft, of course.

Review- Watch This Film or I'll Beat You Up ("Bully," "My Bodyguard")

Shrouded in controversy and caught up in an MPAA ratings war, this documentary on bullies in schools is way, WAY overdue. Directed by Lee Hirsch and focusing on a few key students and some parents, Hirsch does what no filmmaker has done before. He tells the truth about what is happening (and what has BEEN happening for decades) in our schools everywhere. I should know; I was a victim of bullying myself in middle and high school.

Update - SFiFF 55 - The Best Film at the Festival ("Guilty")

Now that the 55th San Francisco International Film Festival has come to close, I've taken some time to look back on the over 25 films I had a chance to screen and anoint the "Best of Festival" award. This one was easy...

Update - SFiFF 55 - When the Light's Go Down at the SFiFF... ("Don't Stop Believin' - Everyman's Journey")

The 55th San Francisco International Film Festival closed with a screening of "Don't Stop Believin' - Everyman's Journey," Ramona Diaz's new documentary chronicling the journey of Arnel Pineda. His trek from a Phillipine cover band to lead vocalist for the classic rock band "Journey" (via You Tube) is an incredible story.

Diaz got a "heads up" from a Phillipine emigration official and jumped on the opportunity to capture
